March 7, 2014: Contemplating Majesty

365 Project, Day 171
Here is my day 171 submission to my 365Project:

I've been itching to get out for a hike lately so we went out to Mount Work Regional Park this morning. It was a lovely day and my mind was instantly cleared of all the thoughts of life's busy-ness as we hiked through the lush, mossy forest. The forests here are such magical places and you get truly refreshed and a sense of perspective about life when you make spend some time surrounded by such majesty!

Contemplating Majesty...and this tree isn't even that large compared to others on this coast!

Just a simple shot today...a little playing around with depth of field with this photo of a rusty nail, moss and acorns on a fence at Beacon Hill Park near my house.

February 16, 2014: Photography On The Edge

365 Project, Day 169
Here is my day 169 submission to my 365Project:

Tofino was mostly wet and rainy today but just before the sun set the skies opened up and we had the most gorgeous evening light. Everybody emerged from where they were hiding for the day and filed on to the beach to take in the moment. Included in this group were many photographers taking full advantage of the gorgeous and unexpected 'golden hour' that unfolded. Spectacular!

This one hearty photographer, despite the slippery rocks and the pounding surf, got himself out to this rocky point to photograph the sea in all it's wildness in the golden light. Here we have a true west coast moment...and undoubtedly a true west-coaster braving the elements to get the shot!

Despite the rain we still donned our full rain gear to go beach-combing and enjoy the beach

Rain droplets hitting a wee tidal pool

Then the clouds opened up and it was like heaven shining down on us
This crazy guy decided to tear most of his clothes off and jump in the sea...another hearty westcoast soul in action :)

It was indeed very rough and stormy out there today!

February 14, 2014: Moon Silhouettes

365 Project, Day 168
Here is my day 168 submission to my 365Project:

For Valentine's weekend we went to Tofino, Vancouver Island for for some stargazing, beach-combing, surfing, hiking and hanging out by the fireplace. Upon arriving tonight the skies were crisp and clear, the stars bright and the moon was just rising creating wonderful silhouettes of the trees surrounding Cox Bay Beach Resort where we were staying for the weekend. It was absolutely gorgeous and I had to stop and get some photos before even settling into our room!
