365 Project, Day 10
Here is my day ten submission to my 365Project

Still waiting to go out on survey so I took some photos around the ship including the helideck where I liked the lines and textures.

June 29, 2013: Angola Oil Rigs

365 Project, Day 9
Here is my day nine submission to my 365Project:

Another busy day of meetings for the start of this job so not much time to do photos. I did snap some photos as we headed offshore from our anchorage just off Cabinda, Angola. There are so many rigs offshore here; much different than off East Africa where I've mostly been working the last couple of years. I took another photo showing about 20 installations in one photo! I also had my first marine mammal sighting of a distant probable humpback whale...I could just see it's blow on the horizon. This means there will probably be many more to photograph in the near future :)

I wasn't overly impressed with my original shot so used the opportunity to play with some editing...and got this 60s style worn out look in the end:

June 28, 2013: Anchor Chain

365 Project, Day 8
Here is my day eight submission to my 365Project:

Now that I'm on the vessel most of my photos will either consist of events around the vessel...or any wildlife we'll be seeing. We're at anchor today so I decided to take some around the ship and thought the anchor chain made interesting subject with a shallow depth of field (DOF!) :)

June 27, 2013: Shipyard Boats - Point Noire, Congo

365 Project, Day 7
Here is my day seven submission to my 365Project:

I arrived last night after 30+ hours of traveling to Point Noire, Congo. We were supposed to leave from this port last night by the transfer boat (the one in blue!) to join the ship but it was decided it would be to dangerous to do this transfer at night so we came back this morning. I wanted to a long exposure of these two derelict boats (and the rat running along the deck of one!) last night but it would've been difficult to pull out my camera and set it up in that situation. When we returned this morning I was able to get this panoramic photo on my iPhone. I love the fact I can easily get these shots with my phone during the hectic times of travel.

June 24, 2013: Yam Soup

365 Project, Day 6
Here is my day six submission to my 365Project:

I just finished traveling  to Congo to join a vessel for my next job offshore Angola so I was very busy and didn't have the chance (or energy!) to take many photos. The only one I had for June 24th was this one I took of huge pot of yam soup I made while trying to eat all the food in my house before I left. So, I figured I'd this photo to play with some post-processing and this is what I got.

June 23, 2013: Mallard Duck With Her Chicks

365 Project, Day 5
Here is my day 5 submission to my 365Project:

I was photographing ducks early this morning at Beacon Hill Park when I realized this Mallard Duck had three chicks sleeping under her...so I waited and photographed them as they started to wake up and stretch their little wings and legs. So sweet!

June 22, 2013: Cooper's Hawk

365 Project, Day 4
Here is my day 4 submission to my 365Project:

After spotting a Cooper's hawk near it's nest yesterday I decided to go back early this morning to see if I could find it again. I did and was able to grab some photos...although I also got another good crow shot but I decided I'd use this shot since I posted a crow yesterday.

June 21, 2013: Young Crow Strolling

365 Project, Day 3
Here is my day 3 submission to my 365Project:

I had a great time watching this young crow interacting with its mother (I presumed) and sibling. It was a toss up whether to use this photo because I also got a shot of a Cooper's Hawk but this guy had so much personality I had to post him :)

June 20, 2013: Bottle Droplets

365 Project, Day 2
Here is my day 2 submission to my 365Project:

Already, on day two, I was struggling a bit with what to photograph. Then I noticed these empty wine bottles sitting by the window at my boyfriend's house and thought they looked neat with the sun shining through them. They had labels on them so I soaked them for a while and then when I put them back in the window I thought the look of the droplets in with the light shining through them and the bottle made it look even more interesting.

Exploring my photography over 365 days! Day ONE :)

June 19, 2013: Bearded Killer Whales

Recently, I have been more passionate about photography and have been working on my photography skills. I learned about the 365Project and decided to do it. So, I will now concurrently begin posting my photos on my blog since I've been too busy to do any other blogs and I figure since these posts will be brief and simple I'll at least be able to keep my blog alive with my daily images :)

So here's day one:

Just down the road from my home is the beautiful Victoria Harbour and the Empress Hotel which sits right in the harbour. I was walking around an thought it would be fun to photograph these killer whale shaped shrubs in front of the Empress. I was pretty happy with the results :)

Members of the regularly observed pod of 'bearded' type killer whales cruising near the Empress Hotel this evening :)
