Sunday May 17, 2009 J POD OFF OTTER POINT IN THE STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA

We departed the Victoria Harbour at 1130 this morning on Five Star Charters Fastcat and travelled west past Sooke to Otter Point where we had a report of J pod.`After about 45 minutes of travelling we reached the whales travelling west in the Strait of Juan De Fuca in fog and wind. During the short but sweet sighting we saw a juvenile male who was possibly J26, Mike,18 years old this year, the J22s (J22, 24 year old female named Oreo; J34, 11 year old male named Doublestuff; and J38, 6 year old named Cookie (See Center For Whale Research ID catalogue and Whale Museum Orca Adoption).
We were very fortunate for us to see J pod this morning before they headed too far west beyond our travel range!
