August 6, 2013: Looking Down On Them Looking Down

365 Project, Day 47
Here is my day fourty-seven submission to my 365Project:


Today we had an Alucat boat (the type of vessel in this photo) come alongside the ship to do a crew transfer. The photo shows the captain, client and health and safety rep looking on at the operation. 

The boat pushes it's bow along the side of the ship where the crew can climb down the pilot ladder and step on board. This is actually one of the nicer ways to do a crew transfer because the Alucat can hold its position solidly alongside and you don't have to worry about getting your timing right to get on or off the ladder as the swell rises and drops!





Fun fact of the day:

The first offshore oil discovery in Angola was in 1966.
