September 14, 2013: Hawksley Workman

365 Project, Day 80
Here is my day eighty submission to my 365Project:

There was an incredibly long line to get into Victoria's Metro Studio Theatre tonight to see Steph MacPherson, Himalayan Bear, Vance Joy and...Hawksley Workman! Hawksley Workman played at 1230 am but we still waited an hour in line outside from 9:30 pm and getting into the theatre just in time to see the shows from Himalayan Bear onwards.

Himalayan Bear was good but I hadn't yet caught my second wind after a full day of Rifflandia music at Royal Athletic Park so I couldn't help but feel dozy in the warm, dark room while he was playing. I perked up when Vance Joy played his set which was quite mellow but I really enjoyed the acoustic guitar and his lyrics.

Although we had already had a 10 hour day of music, the highlight of the night was definitely Hawksley Workman; he is an incredibly talented and entertaining musician and kept the crowd entertained with his antics (mocking the sponsor, Deezer's,  projected light logos on the walls of the theatre) and showed off his musical skills  moving from one instrument to another, including an impressive duet with Mr Lonely, his pianist. I was definitely awake after that performance!

Fun fact of the day:
Hawksley Workman  is not only a talented musician but he has also appeared in films such as Score, Hockey a Musical (of which he wrote some of the music), Youkali Hotel and Stormy Weather. He has also written a collection of fictional love letters to a mermaid in his 2002 ECW press published book Hawksley Burns For Isadora

Here are more photos from today's events:
The roof of The Atrium where we went to the War Child portion of the Rifflandia music festival. The Atrium is a beautiful building and the acoustics are great for these intimate performances...and you can't forget the wonderful coffee at Habit Coffee!

Market Square DJ show - It was still quiet...things were just getting started :)
