September 22, 2013: Scratching That Itch

365 Project, Day 87
Here is my day eighty-seven submission to my 365Project:

On the way home from Tofino this weekend we stopped at Coombs Country Market to visit the market and shops and see the highlight...goats on the roof! That's right, goats wander around on the rooftop of the market and restaurant...and they're so fun to watch interacting with each other and munching on the grass growing up there and, of course, scratching their back with their horns!

Fun fact of the day:
Coombs Country Market was started by the Graaten's, a Norwegian family whom emigrated from Lillehammer, Norway in the 1950s. They incorporated a sod roof in the design of the building for the market and one weekend, after the Coombs Fall Fair, the grass on the roof was getting quite long it is believed that, after a few glasses of wine, Mr Graaten suggested they 'borrrow' some goats to 'mow' the grass and provide entertainment for passing cars. In the end the goats became permanent tenants of the roof of Coombs Market and have been up their for 30 years now!

Here are some more photos from our last day in Tofino and visiting Coombs:

I love the way this tree branch grew all twisted!

Tonquin Park was right next to where we were staying...so we had to go for a drizzly morning walk before we left

Old boardwalk...definitely closed off now!

More photos of the goats on the roof in Coombs :)
