September 20, 2013: Wickaninnish Island, Tofino

365 Project, Day 85
Here is my day eighty-five submission to my 365Project:

This is the view from the beach at Tonquin Beach Park, the beach just down from where I was staying in Tofino, looking over to Wickaninnish Island. It was a rainy day but just before sunset the rain and clouds lightened up making for lovely lighting for photos.

Fun fact of the day:
Tonquin Beach is named after the 19th century American trading vessel Tonquin which sank here in 1811 in which a trade altercation between the crew and a number of First Nations people resulted in the First Nations boarding the vessel and killing most of the 35 member crew.

Read more about the sinking of Tonquin and more information about Tonquin Beach park at  Tofino-bc.com.

Here are some more photos from today's visit in Tofino:
The lovely little place I stayed at, Tonquin Point Retreat, was nice and cozy and in a great location tucked away in the forest on the ocean but only a ten minute walk from Tofino town.

The views from the balcony at Tonquin Point Retreat...it was a wet day but that's what makes it so lush and green here!

The rainclouds lightening up for a beautiful evening sunset
